William Russell is delighted to announce a 2012 charity fundraising total of over £10,000 for Woking Hospice. The insurance provider managed to raise £10,236 throughout 2012, through the collective efforts of directors, staff and clients. The incredible amount shatters last year’s previous record, more than doubling the total raised in 2011.
The impressive total is the result of a packed year of fundraising activities – incorporating dress down days, raffles and sweepstakes. Members of staff also donated clothing and bric-a-brac to Woking Hospice’s network of charity shops, whilst others participated in several of the charity’s annual events – including the Pedal4Charity bike ride, the Giant Pub Quiz, the Race Night and the Midnight Walk. The busy fundraising campaign was spearheaded by Suzanne McSkimming and Jessica Lampe, William Russell’s charity co-ordinators.
In addition, our expatriate policyholders worldwide also helped to contribute to the total, through an innovative ongoing scheme whereby if a client opts for a paper membership card rather than a plastic one, William Russell will donate £3 to charity. Hundreds of policyholders elected to choose the paper option, providing a substantial contribution to the total fundraising amount. This overall amount was then in turn generously matched by WilIiam Russell’s directors, doubling the grand total to over £10,000.
Woking & Sam Beare Hospices provide palliative care and support for patients and families living in central Surrey. The hospices aim to improve the lives of people whose illness may not be curable, helping them to live as actively as possible after diagnosis, to the end of their lives. Support is also given to families and close friends, both during illness and in bereavement.
Inez Cooper, Managing Director at William Russell, says: “This is an impressive achievement by our wonderful staff. The money raised will help support the vital work done by Woking Hospices in supporting patients and their families. It’s so good to know that our staff are such a caring bunch of people, ready to give up their time and money to support a local charity which does such important work in our community. We are thrilled with the total raised, and look forward to trying to better this amount during the forthcoming year.”
Wendy Denty, Community Fundraiser at Woking & Sam Beare Hospices, says, “Thank you so much to William Russell for their support and very generous donation. At Woking Hospice, we continue to provide palliative care and support to patients and their families living with a life limiting illness in north and central Surrey. All care is provided for free and as registered charities the Hospices rely on the support of the community to help fund their work.”
