Help to improve productivity

If issues in an individual’s personal life is upsetting their work life balance, it can be hard for them to concentrate on their job, meaning that their work performance is hindered. If they are experiencing problems with their family life, finances or are suffering from a problem with their mental health, it will be difficult for them to work to their full potential without the right support. This means, to get themselves back on the right track they will need to get their wellbeing in order. To do this, they will need to work through their problems in a healthy and productive way, which may require professional help. A wellbeing programme is a great way to offer help in areas managers or colleagues may not be trained to do, and will mean employees who are struggling always have someone to talk to. It reduces absenteeism, improves productivity, makes employees feel valued and provides duty of care.

Do your research

There are a number of good providers to choose from, but when choosing a service, ensure that they are a well-established provider, with plenty of experience and good reviews. As employees will be entrusting sensitive subjects with those who are offering them care and guidance, it is important that the experts who are there to help are BACP qualified with relevant experience.

Ensure the service is promoted

Once the service is in place, one of the best ways to ensure that it is used is via effective internal promotion. This will mean that employees know where to turn if they do need help. This can be done either with promotional materials, such as posters or flyers or digitally through internal emails and discussed in return to work interviews. One of the best ways to get the word out about the service offered, is through regular social activities. This could consist of wellbeing events, such as fundraisers, where the EAP service is mentioned. Promoting the service this way will have the added benefit of building stronger communication and relationships between staff, working towards a more pleasant and trusting atmosphere.

Implementing a wellbeing programme does not have to be intimidating, it can be achieved through putting some well-defined steps in place.
