New painkiller discovered in venom of black mamba

French scientists have discovered a painkiller is one of the most unlikely places; from the venom of the deadly black mamba snake. The new painkiller offers the benefits of being as strong as morphine but without most of the usually accompanying side effects.

The researchers analysed the venom produced from fifty snake species prior to coming across the pain killing properties found in the black mamba’s venom.

Despite the research being in its initial stages and most of the research having hitherto been conducted on mice, the research shows promising signs of being able to potentially open the way for an entirely new source of effective painkillers.
