Industrial strategy is welcome, but risks being overly narrow

Responding to the publication of the Government’s industrial strategy Peter Cheese, chief executive of the CIPD, the professional body for HR and people development, said: “The CIPD supports the Government’s aspiration of cultivating world-leading sectors, however more clarity is needed on the ‘sector-deals’ the Government is hoping to help create and what type of support would be available to businesses under these.

Bupa to acquire Oasis dental care, the UK’s leading private dental provider, from Bridgepoint

smile2Bupa has announced that it has agreed to acquire Oasis Dental Care, the UK’s leading private dental provider, from Bridgepoint, the European private equity group, in a transaction totalling £835 million. The move is a significant milestone in Bupa’s strategy to offer customers high quality dental services. Bupa will become a major dental provider in the UK’s £7.1bn dental market, with over 2m customers, over 1,800 clinicians and 420 clinics.

ADVO wins the Cover Excellence Awards for the second year running


ADVO are delighted to have recently been named ‘Employee Benefits Intermediary of the Year’ at the Cover Excellence Awards. The annual award ceremony is one of the most widely recognised in the industry, highlighting exceptional protection and health insurance products, providers and intermediaries. ADVO were victorious in this same award category in 2015, as well as being ‘highly commended’ for the category in 2014.

This year’s awards were held at the London Marriott Hotel, Grosvenor Square on 5th October where Colin Boxall, ADVO’s Commercial Director, received the award from Cover Magazine’s editor Fiona Murphy and comedian Chris Turner. After receiving the award, Boxall stated “we must be doing something right” and explained that this was due to ADVO’s approach of “having great people and training, and then using technology to make everyone’s experience better”.

The awards’ judging panel were comprised of highly respected industry figures including Kevin Carr, Chief Executive of Protection Review and Steve Devine, Chairman of the Protect Association. The Awards commented in the run-up to this year’s event “2016 has been an interesting year for the protection and health insurance industries. We have seen greater interest in promoting both markets, significant leaps forward in technology and greater discussion around whether products are fit for purpose. The 2016 COVER Excellence Awards seeks to recognise and reward those firms and intermediaries who have been innovating and serving their customers to the highest standards.”

The Cover Excellence Awards chose to support Place2Be as one of its chosen charities. Place2Be works in schools providing early intervention mental health support.
