AXA PPP healthcare has been recognised as a Green World Ambassador by The Green Organisation for its programme of environmental commitment. This new accolade, which comes as part of the Green Apple Awards, will see AXA PPP healthcare’s environment management achievements published in The Green Organisation’s Green Book as an example of corporate best practice.
Receiving the award, AXA PPP healthcare Environment Manager, Katie Randall said: “Since 2007, AXA PPP healthcare has acted on a commitment to the environment by reducing consumption of energy and water across all its offices and by encouraging employees to reduce waste and be more conscious of the effect their behaviour has on the environment. We even have our own team of beekeepers tending our on-site hives to support the bee population.”
Among the achievements recognised by The Green Organisation were a reduction of its carbon footprint by 46 tonnes since 2007, a reduction in water usage of 787m3, and the elimination of 2.5 million pages of A4 from use across AXA PPP healthcare offices. Some of the changes implemented by AXA PPP healthcare to make these achievements included; significant investment in efficient LED lighting in its buildings, the installation of solar powered lighting in its car parks, fitting sensors to taps in all its toilet facilities, and fitting time clocks to heating and lighting systems. To reduce paper consumption, employees were encouraged to print all internal documents double sided, and the business has encouraged its members to reduce the amount of paper they use by accessing their accounts online.
Roger Wolens, Managing Director of The Green Organisation said: “AXA PPP healthcare has developed an environment management plan that goes beyond simple corporate targets, they have changed the behaviour of their employees, and made a real difference to the effect the company has on the environment. They are a great example of a Green World Ambassador.”
AXA PPP healthcare continues to focus on improvement, setting itself targets each year to maintain a focus on reducing energy consumption. For the future, the business intends to continue with its environment management programme, investing further in solar generation, fitting more heat efficient windows in its existing buildings and utilising natural ventilation and efficient lighting in new office space.
Katie Randall added: “We are a company that cares about the environment, and we are committed to safeguarding it for the future. Being environmentally conscious is a core part of our culture, we aim to make a difference to the environment in the way our employees work and in the way we work with our clients, members, and the community in which we operate.”
AXA PPP healthcare achieved ISO 14001 environmental management standard across all of its office sites in 2014.
